5 Steps for Seniors on the Move!
Seniors are on the move in S Central Pennsylvania: retiring, Downsizing, relocating, etc. Options for seniors housing abound. Follow these 5 steps to start the process.
The tip of the iceberg--looking at options on-line. There is a lot involved in a senior move and, if planned and executed properly, the process can be a lot easier, less frustrating and the iceberg becomes an ice cube.
The Process for Seniors on the Move
Step 1. The Realtor
An experienced Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES), such as myself, will start with a conversation and help you formulate a plan - Your Plan. Whether you are moving into, around or out of S Central Pennsylvania, I will be with you throughout the entire process. An SRES is a Realtor with additional education and experience in working with seniors real estate. I know all about the things an ordinary realtor can handle in a real estate transation, plus the many things that are unique to seniors real estate and the services, resources and connections they need that most buyers, such as first time homebuyers, would not require.
Step 2. The Financials
Do you need financing? Or, is there enough equity in your home to finance your new venture? Depending on your plans, it may be a good idea to bring your financial advisor, CPA, and/or attorney into the conversation. There could be tax implications to consider, legal paperwork to put in place or funding needs that would involve reallocating some investments.
Step 3. A Senior on the Move
Once the financial parameters have been established, we'll discuss what your next move would look like and how it can be accomplished. The likes, dislikes, wishes, must haves and needs. If you've been looking on-line or visiting retirement communities or senior living facilities, you might already have a good idea of where you want to go.
Step 4. The Decision
We've found it - where you want to move! If you have a home to sell that will finance your next move, if this hasn't happened already, it's time to pull the trigger and list it for sale. If you have a contract on your new situation, the negotiation and coordination of dates with the sale of your current property is vitally important.
Step 5. The Conclusion
Your property is under contract and the process is working toward settlement. We can finalize dates and moving plans for your new home. Settlement occurs, money is disbursed and you become a senior on the move to your new home.
This is a quick and simplistic outline of what happens. The key to success is bringing a realtor with seniors housing experience into the mix at the outset. To learn more about the home sale process, ask for the 1...2...3...Go Program.
